Spotlight: Top Picks of the Month
As always, Les Numériques shares their favorite picks for the month. But before unveiling the full list of everything new on Netflix in February, let’s zoom in on a couple of standouts you shouldn’t miss.
The Night Agent: Espionage, Danger, and Secrets Resurface
Following the explosive events of Season 2, Peter Sutherland is tasked with tracking down a young Treasury agent who has fled Istanbul carrying sensitive information—after eliminating their boss. What ensues is a chain of events pulling Peter into a financial conspiracy, on the run from contract killers and eventually teaming up with a relentless journalist. Together, they unearth buried secrets and old grudges that threaten to shake the government to its core… and could cost them their lives along the way.
Almost exactly a year after the release of Season 2 on Netflix, agent Sutherland—played by Gabriel Basso (Jury Duty Season 2, A House of Dynamite)—is gearing up for another mission, still at the heart of the Night Action unit. This new case promises to be even more dangerous than anything he’s faced before, potentially impacting the fate of the United States itself. Fans of the series and action/espionage lovers à la Reacher are in for another adrenaline-packed ride.
Classics Return: Sense and Sensibility
Travel back to early 19th-century England. After the death of their father, the Dashwood sisters and their mother are forced to drastically cut back on their lifestyle and leave their home for a modest life in the countryside. The eldest, Elinor, gives up on a love that seems mutual, while her younger sister Marianne falls for the charming Willoughby. While Elinor hides her heartbreak, Marianne lives her happiness out loud—right up until the fateful day when Willoughby vanishes.
Released in 1995, Sense and Sensibility stands as one of the finest screen adaptations of Jane Austen’s work. There are plenty of reasons why: Austen’s brilliant melodrama as the foundation (obviously), Emma Thompson’s Oscar-winning screenplay, Ang Lee’s graceful direction (Life of Pi), and a cast packed with talent—Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman… So many elements come together to make Sense and Sensibility a true classic that has lost none of its power in nearly thirty years.
